Asahi Beer Robot

"Honey, pour me a glass of beer will ya?" hollers my hubby one Saturday afternoon. It is a sweltering mid-day and the baby is crying because she insists that she wears her polka-dotted bikini to go to the pool and I have my hands full trying to clean up after lunch. I instinctively wished that I had a robot servant that would serve beer to my ale guzzling spouse all day long, and Google helped me discover one Asahi Beer Robot device. Like its name implies this little guy was made in Japan and is the dream gadget of beer lovers everywhere.

What you can do with the Asahi Beer Robot is load up 6 cans of beer in its belly, wait for it to refrigerate along with 2 good sized mugs, then watch as it pours beer into the chilled mug with good head! Of course this is done very slowly and manually but hey who doesn't love a novelty item?

If this were to be commercialized: There's plenty of potential for the Asahi Beer Robot. If they use the same technology utilized in super efficient wine chillers, cans of beer can be chilled in ONE MINUTE! Even better if the robot features a side slot which allows for cans to be automatically flattened when you're done drinking. A handy tool and environmentally friendly too!

PS: Want to buy the Asahi Beer Robot? Initially offered as a promo item whereby beer drinkers need to collect 36 special beer seals in exchange for the robot, this item is rather limited in amount and was last seen at JapanTrendShop.com but alas, it's sold out now :(

PPS: There's another beer serving robot in the form of the Weiss Bier machine. Check it out and be impressed!

Beer Launching Fridge a.k.a BLT

The Beer Launching Fridge was created by one John W. Cornwell, an electrical engineer who believed in the concept of "Why should I go to the beer when the beer should come to me". Lovingly christened the BLT, this mechanism works by allowing a beer to be loaded to a catapult outside the fridge which then launches the can of beer to the air and into the waiting clutches of a thirsty person.

So how viable is this contraption? I won't mind owning something like this but it has to be improved further, cosmetic-wise I mean. The last we heard of the creator, he updated his site and told us that the new version would cost around $1500. That's quite dear for something that launches beer right into the air when we could have walked up to the fridge and gotten it ourselves.

Beer-fetching Robovie-PC

The Robovie-PC is a nifty little robot that was created to replicate your arm movements thanks to a cutting-edge glove that comes with the robot kit. Conceived by the Japan-based Vstone robotics company and the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International, this little fella can not only fetch you a chilled beer, but it can also be connected to your PC. Its eyes are built-in camera sensors allowing it to see ahead (and probably to differentiate between a can of ale and stout?).

However, the Robovie-PC was not created solely to fetch you a can of beer. It has high potential to do so much more. Personally if I can afford this $4500 baby I would train it to do the laundry, wash dishes, and maybe blog for me :D
